Jake Owen connects the earthly to the heavenly on “Up There Down Here,” a wordplay-heavy single about living a moral life while experiencing human foibles. At the heart of the song is a woman who displays “I heart Tennessee” and “John 3:16” “on the bumper of a white Chevy Tahoe,” and “puts a little King James” in the “John Deere” of the track’s smitten narrator. “Up There Down Here” is one of a handful of new tracks Owen released in 2022. His most recent album is followng 2019’s Greetings From… Jake. This playlist tracks what’s happening from the heart of the country scene to its outer edges.
